Video Art

For my video art project, I was feeling inspired by my upcoming graduation, juxtaposed with the world around me. This is a time when I am entering into the 'real world', but in 2013, the world can be a scary place. It is important to stay positive and optimistic in this time as on move on to other ventures outside of UT. I wanted to make it look like all the things I see when I am on my computer from my perspective, which is why the view can see my reflection and reaction the entire time. In the last seconds, the fourth wall is completely broken and I look right into your eyes pondering what lies ahead.

I was inspired by the video portraits created by Andy Warhol and originally wanted to do a modern decontextualized version of those, which is how I got the footage of myself.

Klaus Obermeier + Gideon Obarzaneks + Kevin Warwick

Apparition - Klaus Obermaier & Ars Electronica Futurelab

This mixed media performance by Klaus is an interesting display of multimedia arts. There is digital lighting overwhelming the scenes along with a lot of technology involved with costuming and choreographing. At some points I find it hard to decide whether to focus on the performer or the digital spectacle in the background. The background soundtrack is also interesting and adds another dynamic to the piece. I think this piece is supposed to tell a story and I believe it might be a story about a persons life.

Gideon Obarzaneks

The digital multimedia dance performance choreographed by Obarzaneks is dazzling. I wonder if he uses an thermal camera to detect where dancers are located or if the performance is just that tightly choreographed and prated which is very possible. Rather than a live performance this piece to me seems like a video art piece with a very digital feel. In his next piece Obarzaneks says he is more focused on using projectors to reveal dancers rather than just compliment them and this is extremely evident. I like how the end of this video shows kind of behind the scenes of how the performances are put together because in most other instances we watch them but I am left wondering how it was really created.

 Kevin Warwick -  I cyborg
This seems like something out of a science fiction movie - technology is progressing at an astonishingly fast rate. I can tell Warwicks passion for technology by the fact that he used himself as his own guinea pig and test subject to be a human cyborg. Getting implants in your nervous system is a big deal. who knows if it will kill him some day? Maybe just because this technology is new but it kind of scares me, if human beings can become more advanced, I hope the technology and capabilities would not fall into the wrong hands. This often happens with technology when with all its benefits someone always uses it for evil. Implanting electronics into the body seems like a slippery slope.

Golan Levin

Golan Levin's AMA Video Uses Experimental 3D cinema

"there are specialized programming languages for everyone"

Yet again a video that makes me want to learn programming, it is so useful! I have moved it to the top of my list and there are free online resources to help me learn the basics. I almost wish I could stay in college longer so I could take a few classes. This is the future of communications and is such a valuable skill to understand the devices we use on a daily basis. Not to mention if you can program you can basically never be unemployed because people are always looking to hire.

I love that his entire interview is in Kinect format - it makes it so unique and really gets to the theme of what he is talking about which is computer art. The interview itself is made into almost a video art piece and decontextualized rather than being a straight forward interview. Besides learning programming and coding, i want a kinect-- I will also put that on my list.

I like how he defines the value of a degree as more than the piece of paper but the value of connecting with people, working with them and learning from them.. that might be my favorite part as I am understanding this value more and more as I graduate and move onto higher education.

Josh Walton

Josh Walton: Digital Storytelling Through Physical Space

Walton poses the question - "Where are you right now" - Does the digital age allow us to be in many places at once? For instance right now I am writing this blog, on the phone, and Facebook is open in another tab. I am also watching the walton video as a write, so am I also "at" his performance while thinking about my digital settings as well. The digital world has transformed our concept of the physical world because many of the great things about the physical world are now capable in the digital world, such as a unique space.

I wonder.. what will children who are born 20 years from now be like, as they grow up in entirely digital and physical worlds. With the emergence of google glasses and virtual realities, is the physical world deminishing? It will never go away but is it becoming less special?

VideoArtes.com

This piece on the homepage of VideoArtes.com is really amazing! I love the woman driving with 13 GPS's, its humorous but shows mass consumption in the modern world. Anytime I am in the car I probably have at least 3 devices that can direct me between my phone, GPS and an itouch.

I love how they are all talking over each other and giving different directions. It kind of shows the intelligence of machine v man and our over dependence on machine.

This piece by MilkyEyes hurts my head to even imagine how much preparation was necessary to create this video. The artist spent  a lot of time planning and putting hard work into all the folding images. It is amazing how video art can incorporate other types of art, in this example, drawings to make a completely different product. This is an animation made of drawings and video like no other I have even seen.

Magnetic Recording

Even reading this, science and discoveries blow my mind. I think even if I traveled back to the 1800's with what I know from reading this article, I still couldn't discover magnetic recording. I think this article through the example of the developments of magnetic recording, really shows how much science and technology can discover when people work together and share rather than competing. Even so it took over 150 years for magnetic recording to be perfected.

There are so many phases from first patents and still being faulty, to use for the military and implementing vacuum tubes. Its astonishing that magnetic recording survived the decades. It is a miracle that it did since magnetic recording played such a crucial role in the computer revolution starting as early as the 1950's.

I notice the article is written in 2004 and updated in 2011. A lot of what the end is was predictions. I think its safe to say the prediction that VCR's will be with us for a while is over because if i had a video cassette tape I wouldn't know where to find a device to play it.

DubStep + More

Dubstep is a result of the Postmodern crisis. There was nothing left new to make so we took old stuff, remixed it and made it electronic. I personally love dub step because I find it to be the only music there is no one right way to dance too, dub step is exactly what you want it to be.

I love this video and song by Icona Pop!! I have even been hearing it on the radio recently. This is video art because of the editing and perceptions show in the video. Many filters, and cuts are used. I also like when they animate the words on the screen. The video also features split screen cuts and even shows about 50 of the video simultaneously on screen... I don't care.. I love it!

Bomba Estera is another video art music video from the Latin segment. Although it is a more traditional type of music video it tells a story of life where the song is taking place. A lot of culture is depicted and people are seen going about their daily lives.

The Gorillaz present the clearest example of a video art piece from a music video. Their video is an amazing 3D animation that looks extremely lifelike and takes you through the entire song. The work they do is amazing, I never knew what a seriously talented group of artists they were until we touched upon them in class.

Sheryl Oring

Sheryl Oring is the performance artist who took her typewriter across the country, encouraging people to write post cards to the presidents. Brilliant! Its not the post card to the president that matters, its the thought behind the whole thing. Lets give America back to the people, lets have our voices heard, lets get democracy back to what it was supposed to be before conglomerates took over. I think Sheryl Oring should do a modern day version of "I wish to say" and do this again!

If I don't get into graduate school maybe I will do it for her. Maybe I will do it even if I do get into graduate school. I think you would get to hear so many stories from so many amazing people!

Violent Video Games

In 2013, violence is everywhere.. from fictional movies to the real nightly news, unless you live under a rock theres no avoiding it. So whats different about violent video games? How do they desensitize us anymore than what we already encounter. Well for one, children and teens actually engage in these games, some may play them for hours a day. (where are there parents? my mom would have shut that down) The games encourage robbing, stealing, beating and killing. I assume most kids know that its not real and maintain the difference between right and wrong and just use the games as entertainment. But could they not find a more wholesome form of entertainment. Even so what about that 1 in 5000 kid who has no role models, no influences, no hope besides these violent video games and he takes them seriously. Should he/she be the reason for a ban on these games even though he/she is the minority. Probably not because then we would have to ban everything and put our kids in a bubble. The moral of the story is, violent video games are disturbing, but more importantly is how disturbing it would be for a person to have no other interaction/ supervision enough to be influenced by these games. Parents need to think about what they are buying for their children or how they are spending their time and make sure people have something productive going on in their life. Violent video games is just the scapegoat to the societal meltdown of the American Family and our responsibilities to raise children properly.

The Performance Artists

Tom Geoghegan's performance of "Strange Fruit" was both creative and extremely moving. I would dare to say that the thought process behind the piece is genius. He is making a clear message here as he is dressed in all white hanging from the tree. You can see how dedicated he is to his art how he doesn't even flinch as it begins to downpour.

I want to know how he was able to hang with nothing visibly under his feet? Tom Geoghegan.. if you ever read this... can you make a behind the scenes video! I would love to see your thought process and what personally inspires your art.

Performance Art

I was struggling to figure out a concept for my performance art piece when an idea struck me after a saturday night out in Ybor. I saw many people way too drunk, people passed out and stumbling home. I myself wanted to put my head down after a few too many drinks. I think a major issue in American college is substance abuse specifically drinking and knowing limits along with maintaing control. Recently a friends sister , after drinking and having a physical altercation, was left on the side of the road. No one stopped to help her for many hours and she was sub sequentially in the hospital in critical condition for a number of days. This tragic incident inspired me.

I decided to go to Ybor city and lay down on the sidewalk as if I had passed out drunk with a sing that said "Should I stop drinking?" Some people barely took notice, no one asked if I was okay or what was going on. Some people took selfless with me in the background. One man said "I wonder if she's really drunk" and another man responded "no its just for a message" a third chimed in and said "well I'm gonna go drink now!" Many cars, as you can see in my video slowed to a halt but then continued on driving. You would think a girl laying in the middle of the sidewalk would attract more attention, many people simply laughed.

During my performance piece I felt extremely vulnerable. I was laying with my eyes closed and I could only hear what was going on around me. I struggled to keep a straight face and didn't know what to do as I heard a waiter reporting me to security. I kept still for the message of the piece until a security guard on a segway forced me to get up or he would call the cops. I told him I was simply trying to raise awareness for a class project and meant no harm. He said don't get smart with me and get off my property. I thought that he was very rude and power hungry, maybe that will be in the inspiration for my next performance art piece if I ever do one again!

Guerilla Girls

"We’re feminist masked avengers in the tradition of anonymous do-gooders like Robin Hood, Wonder Woman and Batman. How do we expose sexism, racism and corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture? With facts, humor and outrageous visuals."

The world is full of injustice, an uneven playing field full of racism, sexism and discrimination. As time progresses and society moves forward, many groups are making strides towards equality in rights and representation. With each small victory however I think it is even more CRUCIAL to continue to raise awareness, spread facts and open the minds if individuals who may have no idea these problems exist. Each victory, although a progress, is also a chance for those who have the opportunity to make change to dismiss a cause. If they see progress, they may not be moved to action any longer. They may think, okay the Jim Crow Laws ended and there is no more segregation so there is no more racism. Or woman can vote now so we are equal. Yes these are great progresses but there is more to be done and more conversation to have! We cannot become stagnant and wait for others to make a difference. This is why I think the Guerrilla Girls are great. They raise awareness in a way that catches attention and cannot be ignored. Some people have no idea that issues of power and privilege exist. You may think, "no way everyone knows about that stuff!" But its not true! Recently I was apauled to find that when Justin Bieber visited Anne Frank's museum, it was the first time many of his followers learned about Anne Frank and for some even the Halocaust. We MUST KEEP TALKING about justice and injustice so that progress can move forward instead of society regressing.

Guerrilla Girls.. Keep spreading the message, raising questions and generating awareness!

Flash Mobs

Flash mobs are awesome! I think an amazing thing about flash mobs is that they don't have to be created by a famous artist or corporation with a lot of money. Almost anyone can make a flash mob happen!

Even at UT!!! :

Or an Airport!

I hope I stumble upon a flash mob one day.

The Surrealists

"Surrealism developed out of the Dada activities during World War I"

Surrealist art was a movement in the early 1920's which I believe is derived from creating art that is expressing what is held in our subconscious. Surrealist art is expressive yet unexpected and does not illustrate the world as we know and see it but rather an altered perspective from deep inside the mind.

Surrealism was often shocking in nature and included explicit themes such as sexuality or socialism.

Some of the most famous and well known surrealists include Salvador Dali and Man Ray

Grid Art Project

For my grid art project, I chose to use paint swatches. This was inspired by my client for my Ad Campaigns class, Glidden Paint. I thought the project would be a cool idea for an execution for an ad campaign and could help me familiarize myself with the product. I had to go to three different Walmarts and to take enough paint chips to execute my project. I used crazy glue to secure the swatches to a piece of plywood that I had cut according to the dimensions of the swatches to leave me room for 30x30.

I chose a photograph of a young Steve Jobs holding an Apple for my project for a few reasons. First I was searching for a picture with good color contrast. My medium of the swatches allowed me to be able to incorporate shading and tones in my project so I wanted a picture that would let me use this benefit. Steve Jobs is also a personal idol of mine, not for his personality which was known to be harsh and narcissistic but because of his ability to be a revolutionary. I see Steve Jobs as a role model because he never took no for an answer. He didn't abide by the status quo, believed in innovation and believed in quality products. He also was able to bring out the highest potential in those around them by pretending things they thought were impossible were possible and forcing them to strive to make the impossible happen. I find the man inspiring, however now after hours and hours of putting together his face with paint swatches, I must admit I kind of never want to look at him again.

Her Morning Elegance

This animation is quite a work of art and very insightful. I interpret it as a the story of the woman's dreams being acted out in her bed. I thought the use of props were very creative allowing for more situations I could have ever imagined using just pillows, clothes and blankets. This relations to our flip books because it is a strong example of how as a story is being told, props can expand, change and turn or morph into other things. I also like that the video shows first hand how much can be done even in a simple setting.

Essentially our assignment gives us a simple setting... 200 pages in an old book. But we can use those 200 pages in any way we want and the possibilities are infinite.

August Sings Carmen

In some odd way, I enjoyed this video. I liked that it had an element of suspense, I never knew what was coming next. I think the animation, specifically the robot dancing on the desk it impeccable. It blows my mind how animation and effects can make things come to life in way they never do in the real world. I was kind of baffled by this video when I first saw it. How was it made? What does it mean? But the beauty of the internet is that these questions can be answered!

Wellah: The making of video:

This just shows how much time, effort, manpower and practice goes into making such a creative and well executed video. I think the appealing part of this video is the juxtaposition of the classic opera audio with wild, outlandish and modern visuals.

I want to learn coding!

I found this video to be extremely inspirational. Computer programming is so valuable, as an inspiring entrepreneur I can't help but notice that most of lives new big innovations and products revolve somehow around computer programming. Whether this be making mobile applications, the newest technology or even making an awesome website for a new product.

I have been wanting to learn computer coding for a long time now. I think many people might be interested in doing so but we often hear horror stories of how difficult and intense it is to do so. I am going to make it a new goal to learn at least a little bit of coding. Now that I am graduating in May I can no longer take a UT class on the subject but there are many books and online resources. A friend of mine recommended me this website that teaches coding. I think learning coding may help me because it would likely increasing ones ability to problem solve and takes a lot of dedication. I hope more schools will implement computer programming and more people will not be scared of trying it out.

Historic Computers Brought Back From the Dead

"As the door opens, you can see not only the 1401s themselves, but the mechanical punch-card machine where they take instructions from the outside world, the towering drives where they store data on spinning spools of tape, and even the desk-sized printer where they funnel information onto good old-fashioned paper. There's a gentle hum in the room. You can feel the heat coming off the machines. And, yes, you can smell them too"

Technology has come so far in the last 40-50 years. Computers went from being machines that take up an entire room to an even more powerful machine that I carry in my pocket. IBM 1401 Wide

I believe witnessing these computers in real life would be empowering. It shows just how much humans have the ability to create. In the past few decades our society has literally used math science and computers to turn imagination into reality.

Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly is an interesting animation in which a seemingly asian woman has an affair with an american sailor and has his baby. She waits and waits for him to return for the family. Eventually he does return but sadly he is with an American barbie. He takes the baby away with him leaving Madama Butterfly alone and depressed to kill herself.

The animation itself is intriguing, it seems to be creative in nature. I like that they used barbie style dolls in the animation and the lighting helps to tell the story. I also like that the creator kept a constant flow of music rather then some sort of audio words or subtitles leaving a few things open to interpretation.

Alan Turing

My first research on Alan Turing leads me to find that he is known as one of the fathers of computer science and artificial intelligence. Awesome!

Upon first research Alan Turing, it seems to me that he was a genius, a man "before his time" if you will. Between translating code during the war and inventing the computing machine during his time at Princeton he is the type of man that should be considered a hero by his home country.

I find it ridiculous that after all he did for computer science and his country, he was arrested for homosexuality, which was illegal in the UK at that time in 1952 (only 60ish years ago). Instead of going to prison he chose estrogen injections, which were thought to balance his libito.

It is insane to see what law and justice was at times throughout history.

Rest in peace, Alan Turing.

It really makes you think about how law and society aren't always right. What will we look back on 70 years from now and think how could we have persecuted that people? It is known that Alan Turing saw no wrong and felt no remorse in his actions, but I wish he was able to make more of a movement. Of course that is hard for anyone being challenged by their government and society. Ultimiatley their punishments led to his suicide, which creeps me out because his body was found on my birthday June 8th.

Singing in the Rain pt 2 - Clockwork Orange

During the break-in and brutal attack scene in "A Clockwork Orange" the main character Alex is heard singing these lyrics from 'Singin in the Rain' during the attack on a man and his wife:

"I'm singin' in the rain
Just singin' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
And I'm happy again.
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark, up above,
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love.

Let the stormy clouds chase.
Everyone from the place,
Come on with the rain
I have a smile on my face.
I'll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin', singin' in the rain."

The choice of the song 'Singin in the Rain' is quite peculiar in this scene. Since its inception 'Singing in the Rain' as I have known it is a happy song of celebration even in the proverbial 'rain'. The song is also played during the credits of the movie solidifying its importance and meaning. Playing the song in the credits to me is a message from the producers saying 'this song was no accident'. But why 'Singing in the Rain'?

I see it as a mockery of society. Taking one of the happiest and most well known songs of the 1950's and in the 1970's making it the music of a rape and torture. Could this be a way of showing that a once progressive society is spiraling downward? A lot of major events happened in the USA between 1952 when singing in the rain was first introduced and 1971 when A Clockwork Orange was produced, obviously some good and some bad.

In the 1950's there was McCarthyism, The Civil Rights Movement, Elvis Presley and the Space Race. In the 1960's Neil Armstrong walks on the moon and there is the violence of the Vietnam War, and assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X.

Perhaps the producers were attempting to comment on the seemingly chaotic state of the world in 1972. It could be a metaphoric poke at the morals and values of American Society. That we 'sing' a happy melody such as "Singing in the Rain" in our own heads to comfort ourselves and our actions while elsewhere in the world or even in our own society their is war, assassination, violence and suffering.

Or it could just be a happy accident that an actor sang and a director liked. Even so I believe the placement of the iconic song in the attack scene and the credits are meant to imply a deeper message.

A Trip to the Moon

I can't believe how much film has evolved and advanced over the last one to two hundred years. It is truly remarkable when looking back at old films, or even the first films that were just a series of pictures. Then single camera with a roll of film and eventually audio and color.

Even with the lack of graphics and technology in the early twentieth century I am amazed how much filmmakers accomplished with the little they did have. These people had true creativity and imagination.

A trip to the moon was filmed in 1902, decades before a the first rocket was even launched into space. When watching "A trip to the moon" in 2013 it is evidence that film is a powerful storytelling technique in terms of imagining technology beyond what you may ever live to see.

Also just a side note: for some reason the film kind of reminds me of Willy Wonka.. did anyone else feel that way?

Singing in the Rain...

When we watched the original "Singing in the Rain" scene in class and then the digital animation techno remix for VW it opened my eyes to recreating the classics as inspiration. As an advertising major this was specifically relevant to me because the remix was not just for fun but for an ad. I guess it shows that you can never go wrong with a new spin on a classic. This is because a classic is well known and loved for a reason. It was probably heartwarming and relatable to people at one time and a new spin may be refreshing, or at the least recognizable. When it comes to advertising making something that is recognizable is a mark of success. I think when working on future campaigns I will not always keep in mind that if I am hitting a creative block.. look back at some classic works to draw inspiration.

BLUBLUE

MUTO a wall painted animation is a truly amazing video. The stop animation of a graffiti coming to life and moving along walls is inspiration in terms of creativity. It must have taken such a complex thought and planning process to create such an artistic work.

Watching this video was helpful in getting me started on brainstorming for my flip book animation. The  Blublu video shows how one thing can morph and change and evolve into another and almost tell a story. I will want my flip book to do the same as best I can.

Technology on Broadway

There are many examples of creative uses of technology on broadway. As modern technology advances, these advancements are adapted to be used in the theater to enhance audience experience.
The first example of technology I found on the Stage Door Blog is in the video of "I Got Rhythm" from the show "Crazy For You." The video, above shows that the set and stage are illuminated with digital lights. The digital lights on the floor and in the background capture audience attention and illuminate the performance while also making it more aesthetically pleasing. The lights also add color to the scene and I think make it more interesting.

Technology is also used in making a set more lively, in some cases by making it mechanical. An example of this is depicted in this clip from "Jesus Christ Superstar" When the characters are on a cherry picker type piece of machinery on the stage which lifts them high above the other performers and moved them around.

In "Bye Bye Birdie" technology is also seen incorporated to the set. The stage has conveyer belts which move characters across in some dancing scenes.

In Mary Poppins, technology is used to make the story come to life. It is used to make Mary Poppin's be able to fly during her performance.

An older version of technology that has been used on stage for a long time is mirrors. Seen below in a clip from Chorus Line, mirrors are used to make the stage feel bigger and create the illusion that there are more performers.

In Wicked, technology similar to Mary Poppins is used to make Elphaba appear to be flying during the song Defying Gravity.

One final example of technology on broadway is in the musical adaptation of the Lion King. The costumes are forms of technology that allow people to be seen as animals. They allow for animal like movement and give the show a unique look.

Josephine Baker - First Black Superstar

Josephine Baker grew up at a time in America when black people were treated inferior their white peers. Although she came from 'nothing' her energy, charisma and talent let her out of St. Louis and eventually to New York to experience the Harlem Renaissance and later to travel the USA. At the young age of 19 she left the country to perform with an all black group in Paris and "find freedom". I find it interesting and inspiring that minorities are forced to "find freedom" in other countries then American, which is "the land of the free". This video shows how much throughout history our culture has persecuted others who we see as lesser then the majority.

After making her debut on a French stage nearly naked and performing beautifully, she became an overnight sensation. Some were outraged and others inspired by her movements. She almost reminds me of modern day celebrities with her reputation as a diva, sexual prowess and love for eccentric and flashy possessions including a pet cheetah.

Was she subverting or perpetuating a stereotype? A women in the video states she was subverting the stereotypes formerly put out by the minstrel shows and black face with her laughing and attitude, which made it seem she was in control. She became the black ideal women that white men could fantasize about and a role model for other young performers.

It is sad to see the backlash this icon of her time faced in her performances in America. This video shows how American racism and bigotry can drive away amazing individuals that could be contributing to our society. These prejudices still exist in many forms today.  Josephine Baker was an inspirational figure but I think an important lesson can be learned from her life and experiences. That is that when we persecute, ostracize or take rights away from minorities we are doing a great injustice to society and perhaps missing out on their potential contributions.

Minstrel Shows...

The Minstrel Shows imitated the behaviors of African Americans by performers covering their faces with black paint and parodying 'negro behaviors'.

I think it is interesting that African Americans could not combat these shows by parodying white people so they created their own "authentic" Minstrel Shows that white people could not compete with. At this time African Americans were heavily discriminated against and the entertainment industry projected the myth that all they wanted out of their 'simple' lives was to entertain the caucasians. I did not realize that this racist media ever existed and the heavy stereotypes that the entertainment industry like Coon Songs and the Minstrel Shows reinforced about black people being ignorant and lesser peoples.

One man in the video states that "show business is show business and anything that gets a laugh should be in show business" I disagree. After studying media in school I believe that their is not an equal playing field when it comes to media biases and that all laughs are not created equal. Some groups such as African Americans at that time were made fun of in Minstrel Shows but had no platform to defend themselves and prove their side of the the story. They could not mock others, only themselves. It is not right for the majority to mock the smaller groups who do not have an equal voice, even if it is 'comedic'. This causes some people to actually believe the stereotypes they see projected because they are never shown the other side of the story.

Being Neo-Baroque

In order to understand why we are currently in a neo-baroque era I first wanted to further define baroque as we had discussed in class. I searched the internet and found what I think to be a clear and concise definition of the word. According to the merriam-webster dictionary (merriam-webster.com)

Baroque is:
"a style of artistic expression characterized by grotesqueness, complexity, extravagence or flamboyance,"

This means that modern examples of the neo-baroque era would be any elements of our lives that are overdone, flashy, and used to excite all the senses in the current time. The first examples of the neo-baroque era i explored are the luxury hotels of Las Vegas. One of the most well known and expensive hotels is Caesar's Palace, pictured below:

The hotel lobby is covered in gold trim, giant marble statues of Greek Gods and large pillars with sculptures and carvings of angels. Another Las Vegas attraction that can be classified as neo-baroque is the Freemont light show. I found that this light show is projected on the largest screen in the world which is longer then 1500 feet or five football fields.

I also found examples of a neo-baroque era in recent high end fashion trends. The fall 2012 Dolce & Gabbana line featured dresses and clutches that are bedazzled with jewels, lace and other eye-catching embellishments. The lines are thought to have been inspired by fashion from 17th century.

Allow me to Introduce Myself...

My name is Samantha and I am a senior starting my final semester at UT. I am majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and my dream is to move to California and become an entrepreneur. I am originally from Long Island and I like to go on adventures.

I am taking this class because I needed one more honors course and the description caught my eye since I am interested in both art and technology. I also think that this class is outside my comfort zone and I wanted to challenge myself to become more creative. My hope is that subject matter will be inspiring.
