Guerilla Girls

"We’re feminist masked avengers in the tradition of anonymous do-gooders like Robin Hood, Wonder Woman and Batman. How do we expose sexism, racism and corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture? With facts, humor and outrageous visuals."

The world is full of injustice, an uneven playing field full of racism, sexism and discrimination. As time progresses and society moves forward, many groups are making strides towards equality in rights and representation. With each small victory however I think it is even more CRUCIAL to continue to raise awareness, spread facts and open the minds if individuals who may have no idea these problems exist. Each victory, although a progress, is also a chance for those who have the opportunity to make change to dismiss a cause. If they see progress, they may not be moved to action any longer. They may think, okay the Jim Crow Laws ended and there is no more segregation so there is no more racism. Or woman can vote now so we are equal. Yes these are great progresses but there is more to be done and more conversation to have! We cannot become stagnant and wait for others to make a difference. This is why I think the Guerrilla Girls are great. They raise awareness in a way that catches attention and cannot be ignored. Some people have no idea that issues of power and privilege exist. You may think, "no way everyone knows about that stuff!" But its not true! Recently I was apauled to find that when Justin Bieber visited Anne Frank's museum, it was the first time many of his followers learned about Anne Frank and for some even the Halocaust. We MUST KEEP TALKING about justice and injustice so that progress can move forward instead of society regressing.

Guerrilla Girls.. Keep spreading the message, raising questions and generating awareness!
